Master's Exemption

Students who wish to carry out a thesis and who do not hold a Master's degree awarded by a university that is a signatory to the Bologna Process, must submit an application to the Doctoral School for exemption from a Master's degree, which will be submitted to the Commission de la Recherche d' Aix-Marseille Université.

Parts to be supplied:

  •     The Master's waiver request form (contact ED)
  •     applicant's CV
  •     A detailed description of the thesis project specifying: The subject, the laboratory, the thesis director and the doctoral student's funding (justification for the support)
  •     The opinion of the Thesis Director and the Research Unit Director
  •     In most cases, the applicant has already written a study on original research: the brief and corresponding defence report (if any) will be attached
  •     In the event that the applicant has not prepared such a brief, he or she shall attach any document, attestation and letters of recommendation that will enable the Research Commission to be informed on the basis of his or her application.
  •     Photocopy of identity documents or birth certificate
  •     Photocopy of each diploma
  •     Photocopy of the transcript
  •     The Charter of Theses signed

For holders of foreign degrees, add the following documents:

  •     Translation into French of foreign diplomas and transcripts, which must be authenticated by the Cultural Counsellor of the French Embassy of the country of origin or by any sworn translator.
  •     Detailed curricula for each education for foreign diplomas (translated as appropriate)

The request for exemption from the Master's exemption must be sent to the Doctoral School, 10 days before the date of the next Research Commission. (Commission on Research 2017 Calendar)

The documents must be returned to the secretariat of the Doctoral School (ED) by email only (see contacts)

 

The ED Director will issue an opinion and the complete file will be forwarded directly to the Research and Development Directorate for examination by the Research Commission.

The answer will be notified to you by the Doctoral School after receipt of the decision.
